AI Policies
International Journal of Engineering Innovation and Systems (IJEIS) recognizes the increasing role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in supporting research and academic writing. AI tools, including large language models (LLMs) and other generative systems, may assist authors in improving language quality, organizing ideas, and enhancing research productivity. However, the use of such technologies also raises concerns regarding accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, intellectual property, and academic integrity.
To ensure responsible and ethical use of AI technologies in scholarly publishing, IJEIS establishes the following policy guidelines for authors, editors, and peer reviewers.
Authors
Authors may use generative AI tools to support activities such as:
- Language editing and proofreading
- Idea development and literature exploration
- Coding assistance and data analysis support
However, authors remain fully responsible for:
- The originality and accuracy of the manuscript
- The validity of data, analysis, and findings
- The integrity and scientific quality of the work
Generative AI tools must not be listed or credited as authors under any circumstances.
Authors are required to disclose any use of AI tools in their manuscript, including:
- The name and version of the AI tool
- The purpose for which the tool was used
This disclosure should be included in the Methodology section or Acknowledgment section of the manuscript.
The use of AI is strictly prohibited for:
- Generating research data without a valid scientific methodology
- Producing manuscript content without human review and critical evaluation
- Creating, altering, or manipulating figures, images, or experimental results in a misleading manner
Editors
Editors are required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts.
Editors must not upload, share, or expose any part of unpublished manuscripts to generative AI systems or external AI platforms.
Editors are responsible for ensuring:
- Compliance with publication ethics
- Integrity and fairness of the editorial process
- Protection of authors’ intellectual property and confidential information
Peer Reviewers
Peer reviewers must not use generative AI tools to:
- Evaluate, summarize, or assess manuscripts automatically
- Generate peer-review reports without direct human judgment
Reviewers may use AI tools only for limited purposes such as improving the clarity, grammar, or readability of their review comments.
All reviewers remain fully accountable for:
- The accuracy of their evaluations
- The fairness and objectivity of the review process
- The integrity and confidentiality of peer review
Ethical Responsibility
The use of generative AI in scholarly publishing must always be guided by the principles of:
- Transparency
- Human oversight
- Academic integrity
- Ethical responsibility
IJEIS is committed to continuously reviewing and updating this policy in accordance with international publishing standards and ongoing developments in artificial intelligence technologies.
